Aysgarth Falls Walk – How to Enjoy It Quietly

There’s a reason the Aysgarth Falls walk is one of the most famous in the Dales. But most people see it at the wrong time – and miss what makes it feel magical.

Our tip? Go early, or go late. First light or golden hour. The falls become a place of reflection, rather than a meeting point for tour buses.

Park at the National Park Centre and follow the signs – there’s an easy, circular route that takes in Upper, Middle and Lower Falls. It’s a gentle stroll with plenty of stopping points along the river.

For something slightly longer, extend the route through Freeholders’ Wood and over the bridge to the opposite bank – a less-used path that offers a different perspective of the falls and surrounding woodland.

Bring a flask. Bring your boots. And bring a moment to just stop and listen.
