Walks in Askrigg – 5 Easy Loops from the Cottage
There’s no need to get in the car. These five easy walks in Askrigg begin just steps from the front door of Karnten Cottage and take in some of the most peaceful corners of the Yorkshire Dales.
1. The River Ure Loop
Head downhill past the church and follow the public footpath signs to the river. This circular walk takes you alongside quiet farmland and returns through the centre of the village.
2. Mill Gill Force
One of the most rewarding short walks in the area – a 2-mile there-and-back route through woodland leading to a hidden waterfall just north of the village.
3. Nappa Scar Viewpoint
Climb gently behind Askrigg for views across the valley toward Addlebrough and the peaks beyond. Best done on a clear day, with a flask of tea and a camera.
4. Low Straights Lane
A flat and quiet lane that leads to some beautiful dry-stone wall country and open meadowland. Easy underfoot, and especially lovely at sunset.
5. Askrigg to Aysgarth Taster
Not the whole walk – just a section. Walk out of the village heading east, then loop back before the woodland thickens. It gives a flavour of the longer route without committing to miles.
